Miss Graces' Tuffet

Grace has been asking me for sometime now... several years to be exact... if we could make a tuffet. Remembering back to when she was about 2 1/2 years old... she said, Miss Moppet had a tuffet... so I think Miss Grace should have a tuffet!

So the adventure begins... looking for the fabric, I started looking for something that had.....

YES... that's it, just a Touch of Whimsy!"

We found this real cute print with kitties in a library, which we thought would be just perfect for the tuffet...  It also blended with the color palette of my family room, which was very important to me!

I will share more on our tuffet making process, but now here is just a little on what inspire our design for our tuffet.

My hats off to all the ladies who made these tuffets, I'm not sure where I found them, to give them each their proper kuddos... but they were all inspiration for our project.

This tuffet is just beautiful... It is made with some of my favorite fabrics... satin and velvet.  It also looks like they might have used upholestery fabric for the larger color strips.

I just love putting a unique and personal touch on things, like they have done on this tuffet.

No tuffet is complete without a beautiful focal point button, like you see on these, what a great addition to any tuffet.

Thank you Christine for sharing your beautiful display of color on your tuffet.

Dressing up your tuffet bottom for a clean and crisp look.  There are several ways that you can do this, here are a few.

Here in Riverside California at the Quilters Cocoon you can take Tuffet Class and make your own Tuffet.  All you have to do is choose round or square?

Here are a few of the square tuffets that they have made at the Quilters Cocoon.

Look closely at this one, they have added some piping to the design.

This one has fringe and beads on the bottom.

This designed fabric gave the tuffet an extra bit of bling.

Here is one that is very girly... would look great in a little girls room.

Here is a real masculine looking tuffet, fit for any gentleman. Another high five and kuddos to this tuffet crafter for their repurposing of those old men's ties...  and for crafting this tuffet.  I truly like this beauty!

Now back to the process for our tuffet.
Cutting all the strips that is needed to complete the tuffet.
We needed 16 of the charcoal crinkle print fabric strips.

Gracie is so happy we are finally making her tuffet.

We needed 8 of the grey marble print fabric strips.

Looking to see how many full kitties that I might be able to get on our tuffet.  I really want as many whole cats as possible or heads with half bodies.... no half bodies with rear ends, if at all possible too!

We also need 8 strips of a focal print in which we choose the cats in the library.
(the 4 above and the 4 below).

Well I think that we accomplished the no half rear ended cats that I mentioned earlier.  I'm so very happy about this little detail.

Needed fabric for the bottom of the tuffet and fabric to cover the button.  Everything laid out and ready to sew.

After planning and cutting out my focal fabric, I was reading the directions to start sewing on my own, and I read about using the add a quarter ruler for this project, well I had never used one and didn't know quite how to move forward. I surly didn't want to mess up and ruin my fabric to a point of no return. So I decided to take the class.

This class for the round tuffet is 2 day class, and the class for the square is 1 day..

This first class we sewed our 8 panels.

The second class we sewed the panels together and assembled the tuffets.

Came home from the class and noticed that the lighter colored feet that I bought specifically for the tuffet clashed with the floor. So I put the ones that came in the kit.

Now for the bottom of the tuffet.

Voila!  One more project completed!
